Driving longer distances for challenging hikes is fun. When we do it on Saturday, we have more time to wander around the site and linger at the restaurant, afterwards.

We are headed for the Niagara Peninsula to hike the Bruce Trail through wine country. If you have a Bruce Trail guide, look at Map 4.

Directions

We meet at Yonge and York Mills at 10:00am.

  1. From Yonge and York Mills, get to the QEW westbound. Highways 401 and 403 should do it.
  2. Keep to the left and continue on the QEW past the exit to Highway 403, across the Burlington Skyway.
  3. Continue on past Hamilton.
  4. Pass Ontario Street and Victoria Avenue.
  5. Exit on Jordan Road, Exit 26, and drive south.
  6. Google Maps recommends that you turn right at Fourth Avenue. Turning right at Red Maple Avenue works too, and iot takes you past another winery.
  7. Either way, When you reach Nineteenth Street, turn left, south.
  8. When you reach Jordan, you will find the main parking area on your right, decorated with all sorts of wine barrels.
  9. Park!

The parking lot extends from 19th Street to Main Street. On the opposite side of Main Street, you should see the Cave Springs winery. This is a winery hike! Google Maps directions.

We will try to start the hike at 11:45am. Let's hope it does not rain this time.

Remarks

We will be hiking the Twenty Mile river trail. The Twenty Mile River is twenty miles from something, not twenty miles long.

Definitely, we will visit the Calamus Estate Winery. We will check out Balls Falls. Cave Springs Cellars is back at the start point in Jordan. We can do them last.

2006/11/11

This hike will be level 2 with some serious hills and stairclimbs. We will try for some decent kilometers, so you need to be in shape. It is Saturday. We can get home late.

There are a couple of reasonably priced pubs in the area, where we can eat afterwards. It is Saturday, so we do not have to get back quickly.
