Waterdown

Date: Sunday May 10

Hike Leader: Bill Baird

This is a car-shuttle hike. We will rendezvous in the parking lot of the Royal Coachman Bar. This is on the north side of Dundas St (Hwy 5) in the old part of the town of Waterdown. Then we will place all of the hikers in half of the cars (hopefully) and drive to the start of the hike, to the west. Then we will hike back to the hotel for dinner. Keep in mind we will need lots of cars.

Directions to rendezvous

Remarks

This hike is rated difficult.

If you have time to kill, there is a small lookout a short distance to the south. We will be hiking on the Bruce Trail. We will start by hiking north, to the left. The trail bends around Borer’s Falls. Near the end we will hike up a steep gorge. This is one of the most scenic parts of the Bruce Trail. At the top of the gorge, check out the waterfall. It can be seen best from the metal viewing platform. The town is up the hill, to your left (north). At the main intersection of town, turn left.

This hike as been considerably shortened from the one I ran originally. A new starting point lops off 3.5 km. But the hike is still a challenging 11.8 km. The vertical is still there. But the Grindstone Creek gorge is worth it.
